PC Rollout Old Data Information

During the Spring 2003 C&F Rollout all data from your current machine (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, pdf, etc.) will be transferred to your new Dell computer. To make it easier to transfer all of your important files to your new computer, begin saving and transferring all your saved files and documents into your "My Documents" folder. Be sure to save ONLY data files, and not application files into this folder. Save the files with the following extensions: .doc, .xls, .pdf, and .gif.  Do not save application folders or specific programs to the "My Documents" folder.

NOTE: All machines must be in your office on the scheduled date for 2003 C&F Rollout. Although it is preferable, you do not have to be present, but if the machine is not available when your refresh is scheduled, another date will be set. All procedures chosen by UNIT for data transfer will be performed on your machine at your department's scheduled time. All Power On Passwords will need to be deactivated to allow access for old data transfer.  All used computers will be upgraded and redeployed on campus where needed.

Q.  What is going to happen to my Email when I get my new machine?
A.  All Email is defaulted to IMAP which stays resident on the server, If you have changed or currently move your email to your hard drive locally you may make a backup of your Mail folder to My Documents by the following these instructions:

Here are the instructions to back up your email "local mail" folders, bookmarks and address book(s):

1. Double-click My Computer from the Desktop and then double-click on the C: Drive
2. Locate Program Files and double-click on it
3. Locate Netscape and double-click on it
4. Locate Users and double-click on it
5. Locate your user folder (usually it will have your 8-character username or your full name)
6.On the right, click once on the MAIL folder. Then holding your Control (CTRL) key on your keyboard, click once on the bookmark.htm file and then on the pab.na2 file. If you have more than one address book (other than your Personal Address Book), locate it's *.na2 file and click on it.
7. Once the files have been selected, click Edit from the menu bar above and select Copy.
8. Now use the Back button on the toolbar above to go back to the C: drive (if you don't see the toolbar above, click View from the menubar above, select Toolbars and click on Standard Buttons).
9. Once back to the C: drive, locate My Documents and double-click on it.
10. Select Edit from the menubar above and click on Paste. This will put a copy of all of the important Netscape files (bookmarks, address book, local mail) into your MyDocuments folder so that you be sure to have a backup of them in case they get lost in the transition over (which they shouldn't, but it's good to be cautious).
11. Now you can close the window.
