The desktop computer has evolved from a tool for individual
productivity to a mission-critical component for sharing
information. While our dependency on this technology
continues to grow, so do the ever present security threats
from the internet. Desktop management tools will provide us
with the capability to rapidly respond to these threats,
while more effectively utilizing our IT support staff.
Our Desktop Management Strategy will focus on the following
areas:
We will use Microsoft's
Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 and a newly developed
Active Directory as our primary management tools.
The new computer will also include an application that will report
print activity back to a centralized server on campus.
This is in support of the University Campus Print Program.
